Locally 2013 was a difficult growing season, the Spring was cold and kind of dry, however the rains came in May and June, setting a two month record of over 20″ in the Burlington area. All this rain caused all kinds of flash flooding, just ask the Squires!
Regardless of the weather some members still grew personal bests. Mark & Shannon Breznick took third place at Topsfield with a 1530.5 lb giant, Brent Towne smashed through the 1K mark with a VGPGA weigh-off winning 1290 lbs and despite having to backfill his patch “twice” Dick Squires grew 831 lbs (pretty impressive).
There were also new State records for Watermelon (John & Kerry Young) and Field pumpkin (Kevin Companion). Nice growing all!
Annual On-Line Seed Auction,
held January 5 – 13th, 2013.
Our On-line seed auction was a great success! Thanks to all the growers who donated seeds and all the bidders who participated. Many thanks to Steve Minor, Ann Squires, Randy Stromback, John Young and Terry Keim for setting up and working the auction. Special thanks to Ann for organizing and sending out all the seeds. And another special thanks to Randy for building and donating a hefty lifting ring.

Annual Summer BBQ and Patch Tour, August 10th, 2013.
The patch tour was in the southern part of the state this year. We visited the Boyce, Parker, Cole and Cadieux patches. Ending up at Huey and Wendy Cadieux’s for the BBQ, great food, great weather and a lot of fun. Not much club business dicussed, but a lot of talk about pumpkin success and failure.
